Web Standards in 2008

As the web continues to evolve there's a constant tension between development that sticks to open standards and that which is often innovative yet ultimately is proprietary. Companies can often make a lot more money by ignoring standards and building their own web widget that only works on their product. Microsoft, Apple, IBM and Adobe are only a few of the companies that often ignore web standards. A List Apart article goes through the arguments:
