A recent webinar by Marketing Experiments, highlighted an interesting approach to the motivation people have when visiting a retail website... they are either Hunters or Browsers. Hunters are people who already know what they want and are looking for the quickest, easiest way to find it. Once price, and shipping are established they will be ready to buy. A Browser on the other hand, may simply be "window shopping"... they've wandered into your site and may not have a specific product or service in mind - in essence, they are "checking you out."
Retail sites need to develop sites that address both user motivations and in doing so, will increase the number of sales on the site. More at www.marketingexperiments.com
